We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable individual to join OGI as a Civil Engineering Apprentice. This is a fantastic opportunity to launch a career in specialist geotechnical and groundwater engineering, working alongside experienced engineers and geoscientists on live projects from day one.

You will follow the OGI structured development process, gaining hands-on experience and formal qualifications as you progress, with the opportunity to advance through to a Level 6 (degree level) apprenticeship as your skills and responsibilities grow.

Salary: Competitive apprentice salary, reviewed annually with each level of progression

Working week: Full time, Monday to Friday, with day/block release for study

About OGI

OGI Groundwater Specialists Limited is a specialist engineering design, groundwater control and consultancy company based in Meadowfield, Durham, in the North East of England. For over 30 years we have provided groundwater related design and consultancy services to clients and contractors across the UK and abroad, working on some of the most challenging natural ground conditions encountered in the construction industry.

Our core areas of work include construction dewatering, geotechnical design, groundwater computer modelling and hydrogeological consultancy Although a relatively small company, we have one of the largest specialist technical teams in the UK dedicated to solving groundwater engineering problems, and our designs support major infrastructure projects including bridges, tunnels, wastewater treatment works and deep excavations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting engineers in the preparation of technical drawings, calculations and design reports
  • Assisting with groundwater and geotechnical computer modelling
  • Carrying out site visits, inspections and test data collection where required
  • Supporting the preparation of environmental permitting documentation
  • Working closely with colleagues across engineering, hydrogeology and site teams
  • Learning OGI’s in-house design tools and industry-standard software packages

Education and Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold, or be expecting to achieve, GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths, English and Science at grade 4/C or above, along with A-Levels, a BTEC or T-Level with a strong maths and science content, suitable for entry onto a Civil Engineering level 3 apprenticeship pathway.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone with a genuine love of engineering and maths, and the curiosity to understand how and why things work.

  • Good IT skills and confidence using new software
  • The ability to work well as part of a team as well as independently
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage tasks and deadlines
  • A committed, reliable attitude, with ambition to progress through OGI’s development process to Level 6

Training and Development

You will work towards a recognised Civil Engineering apprenticeship qualification through day or block release at a local college or training provider, combined with structured on-the-job training and mentoring at OGI.

Following successful completion of your initial qualification, you will be supported to continue your studies and professional development through OGI’s development process, with a clear pathway towards a Level 6 apprenticeship and progression towards professional engineering status.
