Chaplin Station, Toronto
Catagory: Groundwater Control
Location: Toronto, Canada
Client: Hoelscher Dewatering
Sector: Transport
Chaplin Station is part of the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rapid Transit (ECLRT) Project in Toronto, Canada. The ECLRT project consists of 19.7km of light rail transit running along Eglinton Avenue.
OGI were engaged to provide groundwater control design services together with modelling to validate performance against monitoring.
Site Conditions
The geology at the site comprised two sand aquifers separated by a low permeability silt and clay layer.
OGI’s groundwater control design was developed to lower the water table within both the upper and lower sand units below excavation formation.
Project Process
OGI developed a finite element groundwater flow model which was calibrated to the measured groundwater levels in the monitoring wells inside and outside the station box.
This modelling enabled the groundwater level to be predicted spatially and temporally as the dewatering system was commissioned, to fine-tune the excavation programme.
